Manusia dalam kehidupan sosialnya melakukan interaksi untuk mencari teman, bertukar informasi, dan sebagai dasar sebagai mahluk sosial. Interaksi dilakukan dimana saja seperti pasar, kantor pemerintahan, maupun sekolah. Di lingkungan sekolah, interaksi erat kaitannya dengan kegiatan pembelajaran.
Dalam proses pembelajaran antara pendidik dan peserta didik harus ada interaksi. Pendidikan pada dasarnya merupakan interaksi antara pendidik dengan peserta didik, untuk mencapai tujuan pendidikan, yang berlangsung dalam lingkungan tertentu. Interaksi dapat dilakukan dengan melakukan komunikasi. Menurut Nana Sudjana, komunikasi yang biasanya dilakukan adalah komunikasi satu arah, komunikasi dua arah dan komunikasi banyak arah.
Berdasarkan hal yang tersebut diatas, peneliti akan meneliti tentang pola interaksi antara guru dan murid kelas X dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris di SMA Budi Mulya Yogyakarta.
