Pada saat peresmian Stasiun Bandung, surat kabar Belanda saat itu, Javabode, menuliskan bahwa masyarakat sekitar merayakannya selama 2 hari berturut-turut. Dulunya, kereta api merupakan sarana transportasi hasil produksi perkebunan Bandung, seperti kina, teh, kopi, dan karet, sehingga pertumbuhan ekonomi di kota tersebut berkembang pesat. Hal ini menyebabkan stasiun ini mendapat penghargaan dari pemerintah kota berupa monumen yang berada tepat di depan stasiun, yaitu di peron selatan (Jalan Stasiun Selatan). Saat itu, tugu tersebut diterangi oleh 1.000 lentera rancangan Ir. EH De Roo. Monumen tersebut telah digantikan oleh monumen replika lokomotif uap seri TC 1008. Pada tahun 1990, dibangun peron utara yang akhirnya dijadikan bagian depan stasiun di Jalan Kebon Kawung.
