para pemimpin Muslim didesak presiden Jokowi untuk membantu pemerintah dalam menindak khotbah radikal .langkah ini dilakukan untuk mencegah penyebaran fundamentalisme dan terorisme di negara Indonesia.
pada Jum’at pagi presiden Jokowi bertemu dengan Said Aqil Siradj Ketua organisasi Islam terbesar di negara itu Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), dan perwakilan dari Lembaga Dakwah Islam Indonesia (LDII) untuk membahas upaya untuk membasmi ekstremisme agama di negara, yang selama bertahun-tahun telah berjuang melawan terorisme, pertemuan ini di adakan dalam dua pertemuan yang terpisah.
Aqil berfikir kalau organisasi islam dan pemerintah memiliki keadaan darurat dan harus meningkatkan upaya untuk mempromosikan interprestasi damai Islam.
untuk mengatasi akar penyebab radikalisme dan yang mengadopsi pendekatan keras bisa menjadi kontraproduktif di negeri ini - yang merupakan rumah bagi berbagai kelompok Muslim, jokowi menekankan bahwa itu sangat penting
pemerintah saat ini sedang mencari untuk mengubah UU Terorisme untuk memperkuat langkah-langkah kontraterorisme negara akibat serangan teroris yang mematikan di jakarta pusat.

Menurut Said Aqil peraturan tersebut tidak akan mengambil bentuk sensor atau pengawasan karena hanya berupa rekomendasi.
Said Aqil juga menyatakan bahwa NU ulama akan terus memberitakan versi Islam moderat dan mendidik umat Islam tentang bahaya radikalisme melalui saluran televisi milik negara TVRI, dan penyiar RRI nasional.

Luhut menyatakan Presiden ingin semua organisasi massa untuk bergandengan tangan dalam meningkatkan kesadaran pada upaya deradikalisasi, serta masalah narkoba.

dan tentang khotbah, Luhut pun menyatakan bahwa pemerintah tidak akan memaksakan pengawasan tetapi panggilan untuk khotbah untuk menyalurkan sisi damai Islam, bukan masalah yang, sampai batas tertentu, dapat provokatif dan pemerintah akan bekerja dengan masyarakat dalam menangani masalah terorisme dan penyalahgunaan narkoba karena Pemerintah tidak bisa bekerja sendiri dalam mengatasi terorisme dan narkoba.

dalam penyampaian Luhut Jokowi akan mengubah pertemuan Jumat menjadi forum reguler melalui mana organisasi berbasis Islam bisa mendiskusikan sejumlah masalah saat bersamanya karena Sebelumnya pemerintah menyatakan keprihatinan atas volume khotbah agama disiarkan oleh masjid-masjid.
