Rasulullah shallallahu `alaihi wa sallam bersabda tentang fitnah wanita:

“Tidaklah aku tinggalkan setelahku fitnah yang lebih berbahaya bagi laki-laki daripada fitnahnya wanita.” (Shahih, HR. Bukhari dan Muslim)

“Sesungguhnya dunia itu manis dan hijau, dan sesungguhnya Allah menjadikan kalian berketurunan (regenerasi) di atasnya, lalu Dia akan melihat bagaimana kalian berbuat. Maka berhati-hatilah kalian terhadap dunia dan hati-hatilah terhadap wanita, karena awal fitnah yang menimpa Bani Israil dari wanitanya.” (Shahih, HR. Muslim)

Shahabat Rasulullah shallallahu `alaihi wa sallam bernama Abdullah bin Mas‘ud radhiallahu `anhu berkata: “Ada seorang laki-laki mencium seorang wanita yang bukan mahramnya. Dengan penuh sesal laki-laki itu mendatangi Rasulullah shallallahu `alaihi wa sallam mengadukan maksiat yang telah diperbuatnya. Maka turunlah ayat Allah:

“Dirikanlah shalat pada dua ujung siang dan akhir dari waktu malam. Sesungguhnya kebaikan itu akan menghapuskan kejelekan. Yang demikian itu adalah peringatan bagi orang-orang yang mau berdzikir (mengingat).” (Hud: 114)

Laki-laki tadi berkata kepada Rasulullah: “Apakah ayat ini untukku?” Rasulullah menjawab: “Ayat ini bagi orang yang berbuat demikian dari kalangan umatku.” (Shahih, HR. Bukhari)

Karena terfitnah dengan wanita, seorang laki-laki ingin berzina; dan karena fitnah wanita, seorang laki-laki melakukan perbuatan yang mengantar kepada zina (mencium), padahal Allah Subhanahu wa Ta`ala telah memperingatkan:
