Pemerintah Indonesia memutuskan untuk menunda eksekusi terhadap Mary Jane Veloso (30), terpidana mati kasus narkoba asal Filipina, Rabu (29/4/2015). Alasannya, Pemerintah Filipina membutuhkan kesaksian Mary Jane setelah tersangka perekrut Marry Jane, Maria Kristina Sergio, menyerahkan diri kepada kepolisian Filipina, Selasa (28/4/2015).
Mary Jane ditangkap, diadili, dan divonis mati pada 2010 setelah terbukti menyelundupkan 2,6 kilogram heroin ke Indonesia.
saya pikir, saya tidak setuju dengan hukuman mati yang dijatuhkan kepada Mary Jane dikarenakan dia sedungguhnya tidak mengetahui apa yang ada di dalam kopernya, karena dia merupakan seorang korban yang dibohongi oleh Maria Kristina. mary sebenarnya juga tidak bermaksud untuk datang ke Yogyakarta dengan membawa heroin, karena koper yang dia bawa merupakan koper yang diberikan oleh Kristina. penundaan hukuman mati yang ditujukan kepada Mary adalah keputusan yang baik menurut saya, karena aparat hukum indonesia masih dapat mempertimbangkan keputusannya untuk tidak menghukum mati. saya fikir hukuman mati dapat di ganti dengan denda atau penjara selama beberapa waktu itu lebih baik. karena dalam kasus ini, mary jane merupakan korban dari Kristina bukan tersangka yang sesungguhnya.
