Menurut Centers for disease control and prevention (2014), bayi berusia 6 bulan sudah mengalami banyak perkembangan dari berbagai aspek. Dari aspek sosial dan emosional, bayi sudah bisa mengenal wajah keluarganya dan bisa menentukan yang mana orang asing dan yang mana keluarganya, senang bermain dengan orang terutama dengan orang tuanya, selalu senang dan dapat membalas senyuman orang lain, dan suka melihat dirinya sendiri di depan kaca.

Dari aspek komunikasi dan berbahasa, bayi berusia enam bulan memiliki kemampuan untuk membalas bunyi suara yang ia dengar dengan membuat suara lain, memberi respon saat namanya disebut, mengeluarkan suara untuk menunjukkan ia senang atau tidak senang, dan mulai bisa mengucapkan huruf konsonan seperti “b”, “c” dan lain-lain.

Dari segi fisik, bayi sudah bisa berguling-guling dari depan ke belakang atau sebaliknya, mulai bisa duduk tanpa bantuan orang lain, dapat menahan berat badannya dengan kaki saat bangkit berdiri, dan sering merangkak maju mundur
