Sebagaimana di kota besar lainnya di Indonesia, AMIU juga telah menjadi alternatif bagi penduduk di Kecamatan Tanjung Redep dalam pemenuhan kebutuhan air minum. Di kecamatan ini terdapat 6 (enam) DAMIU yang rata-rata memiliki produksi sebesar 720 galon per hari, sehingga diasumsikan sekitar 6,98% penduduk mengkonsumsi air minum isi ulang. Berdasarkan pemeriksaan terhadap kualitas bakteriologis air baku tahun 2006 yang dilakukan oleh Puskesmas Tanjung Redep, pada 72 sampel air terdapat 53% yang mengandung bakteri koliform. Padahal air baku yang dipergunakan pada depot air minum ini harus memenuhi syarat sesuai dengan Peraturan Menteri Kesehatan Nomor 416/Menkes/Per/IX/1990 tentang Syarat-Syarat dan Pengawasan Kualitas Air, yaitu kandungan E. coli dan total koliform sebesar 0 JPT/100 ml sampel. Sehingga penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui higiene sanitasi DAMIU di Kecamatan Tanjung Redep, Kabupaten Berau, Propinsi Kalimantan Timur.

In district there are 6 (six) DAMIU the average production amounted to 720 gallons per day, so it is assumed about 6.98% of the population consume drinking water refill. Based on the examination of the quality of the raw water be bacteriologically 2006 performed by Clinics, Redep Cape on water samples contained 72 53% containing the bacteria koliform. Whereas raw water used at the depot drinking water must be qualified in accordance with the regulation of the Minister of health the number 416/Menkes/Per/IX/1990 regarding the terms and monitoring water quality, namely the content of e. coli and total koliform of JPT 0/100 ml of sample. So this research aims to know the facility sanitary DAMIU in Tanjung Redep, Berau Regency, East Kalimantan Province.
