Dalam hal kebebasan beragama yang dibangun Rasulullah di atas, Haekal melukiskannya sebagai berikut:

“Ia tak pernah memikirkan kerajaan, harta kekayaan atau perniagaan. Semua tujuannya untuk memberikan ketenangan jiwa bagi mereka yang menganut ajarannya, dengan jaminan kebebasan bagi mereka dalam menganut kepercayaan agama masing-masing. Bagi Muslim, Yahudi, atau Nasrani masing-masing punya kebebasan yang sama dalam menganut kepercayaan, kebebasan yang sama dalam menyatakan pendapat dan kebebasan yang sama pula menjalankan dakwah agama. Hanya kebebasanlah yang akan menjamin dunia ini mencapai kebenaran dan kemajuannya dalam menuju kesatuan yang integral dan terhormat. Setiap tindakan menentang kebebasan berarti memperkuat kebatilan, berarti menyebarkan kegelapan yang akhirnya akan mengikis habis percikan cahaya yang berkedip dalam hati nurani manusia. Percikan cahaya ini yang akan menghubungkan hati nurani manusia dengan alam semesta, dari awal sampai akhir zaman, suatu hubungan yang menjalin rasa kasih sayang dan persatuan, bukan rasa kebencian dan kehancuran
