Rebana, genjring, atau dalam kosakata bahasa Inggris disebut tamborine adalah alat musik Islami terbuat dari papan kayu pilihan, dibulatkan dan dilobangi dengan menggunakan mesin bubut bertenaga listrik dengan desain khusus agar menghasilkan suara yang khas. Pada sisi sebelahnya dipasang kulit kambing yang sudah disamak putih. Dengan ketrampilan, keahlian serta kesabaran dalam penggarapannya maka akan menghasilkan salah satu karya seni Islami dalam bentuk Rebana berkualitas. Rebana yang bagus adalah yang bersuara jernih, tidak fals, dan tentu saja yang berpenampilan kilap atau esklusif.
Eksistensi Rebana Kaliwadas, Rebana Bumiayu, bermula dari keuletan bapak Madali (alm.) dan bapak Toip ( ayah kami ) dalam membuat alat musik Islami ini pada era 1940-an. Saat itu pembuatan rebana bisa dibilang masih terbatas dan hanya sebagai pengisi waktu luang disela-sela kesibukan mereka bertani. Pembeli dan penikmat suaranya yang khas pun masih sebatas orang-orang berusia tua dan di daerah terdekat saja. Jenisnya saat itu hanya ada dua macam yakni Rebana Syrakal dengan diameter 36-39 cm dan Jawa Klasik yang terbuat dari Glugu atau kayu Kelapa. Pembuatan bodi Rebana dan Jawa saat itu masih menggunakan cara manual, yaitu dengan menggunakan alat tatah untuk mendesain dan melobangi. Itupun masih bekerja sama dengan seseorang yang berasal dari daerah Jatilawang, Banyumas. Baru pada era menjelang 70 an orang tua kami mulai merancang pembuatan bodi Rebana dengan menggunakan mesin bubut meski masih dengan menggunakan tenaga kaki ( digenjot ) agar as yang telah dipasangi bulatan kayu rebana bisa berputar.
Tahun 1970-an seorang pengusaha dari Tasikmalaya bernama H. Sulaeman (alm.) yang telah membuka toko pernik-pernik dari kerang laut di jalan pasar Ikan Jakarta, datang berkunjung. Beliau menyaksikan keuletan dan kerajinan ayah kami yang notabene pembantu pak Madali dalam membuat Rebana, sehingga kemudian mengajaknya bekerja sama dengan membuka usaha sendiri dan memberinya modal gratis !
Nah, kemudian, dari toko inilah akhirnya lambat laun Rebana Kaliwadas-Bumiayu yang notabene produk Toip mulai dikenal luas. Disusul kemudian dua toko di sebelahnya bersiap menampung alat musik yang lebih dikhususkan sebagai pengiring sholawat ini.
Puncak kejayaan Rebana berlangsung pada tahun 1999 hingga sekarang. Saat itu saya baru satu tahun mendirikan home industry Suara Tunggal Bahana. Jenis produksinya pun lebih banyak dan bervariasi. Ada Rebana Hadrah, Qasidah, Marawis, Bass, Jawa Modern [ Rebana MAPSI], dan lain-lain. Jenis alat musik lain pun kini menjadi garapan kami seperti : Gendang, Bedug, Drum, paket Band, Marching Band, dan lain-lain.
Produk Suara Tunggal Bahana dengan label Solichin Toip alhamdulillah telah dikenal luas dan diakui kualitasnya. Sehingga televisi nasional Trans7 berkenan memilih dan mengangkat profil kami dalam acara Laptop Si Unyil pada 21 April 2010 yang lalu. Dan pada Ramadhan 1431 H. yang lalu juga televisi lokal RCTV Cirebon telah menerima kami sebagai salah satu sponsor dalam acara Kontes Genjring Ramadhan 2. Karena terkenal dengan kualitasnya maka tidak heran jika kemudian beredar produk Solichin Toip aspal alias asli tapi palsu.
