Para Kurawa selalu ingin menyingkir

Para Kurawa selalu ingin menyingkirkan Pandawa karena menurut mereka Pandawa hanya menjadi penghalang bagi mereka untuk mengusai kerajaan Astina. Kurawa menganggap kekuatan Pandawa terletak pada Werkudara karena memang ia adalah yang terkuat diantara kelima Pandawa, sehingga suatu hari atas akal licik Patih Sengkuni yang mendalangi para Kurawa merencanakan untuk meracun Bima. Kala itu saat Bima sedang bermain, Ia dipanggilnya oleh Duryudana dan diajak minum sampai mabuk dimana minuman itu diberi racun. Setelah Bima jatuh tak sadarkan diri, ia digotong oleh para kurawa dan dimasukkan ke dalam Sumur Jalatunda dimana terdapat ribuan ular berbisa di sana. Kala itu, datanglah Sang Hyang Nagaraja, penguasa Sumur Jalatunda membantu Bima, lalu olehnya Bima diberi kesaktian agar kebal dan mendapat nama baru dari San Hyang Nagaraja yaitu Bondan Peksajandu.
