Research on language teaching
What is research?
Research is a general term the which covers all kinds of studies designed to find responses to worthwhile questions by means of a systematic and scientific approach.according toNunan (1992, 3) Research is a systematic process of inquiry consisting of three elements or components: (1 ) a question, problem or hypothesis, (2) the data, and (3) analysis and interpretation. "Research is the art and science in order to find answers to the problems (Yoseph and Yoseph in Shamsuddin and Damaianti, 2006: 2). Because the arts and scientific research, provide spaces that will accommodate their differences about the concept study. Research can also be interpreted as a way of observation or inquiry and aims to find answers to the problems or the process of the invention, either discovery atauinvention .Discovery interpreted as the result of the discovery that actually does already exist. Invention can be interpreted as the discovery of the research results with a completely new facts support. The general objective is to explain the research activities of the world around us through a systematic effort (Kamil, 1995). Based on these formulations, the research objectives of language teaching is a systematic effort to explain, understand, solve, and anticipate issues of language teaching. In detail the research objectives of language teaching is as follows:
a. discover and develop theories, models, or new strategies in language teaching;
b. implement, test, and evaluate the ability of theories, models, language teaching strategies in solving the problem of language teaching;
c. describe and explain the circumstances or relationships ataupikiran various issues related to the problem of English
d. solve the problem of language teaching;
e. discover the factors that affect the problem of language teaching;
f. make decisions or policies regarding language teaching.
Research Teaching of English (English Language Teaching: ELT) is a very complex issue. There are a number of variables or factors that potentially could affect the success of foreign language teaching. However, the factor of teaching methods can be considered a determinant factor in determining the success of language teaching Inggris.Meskipun Thus, much effort has been made to improve the quality of English language teaching, in general the result is still very alarming.
