Setelah Proklamasi Kemerdekaan RI, Pelabuhan Sunda Kelapa yang tadinya Pasar Ikan banyak dikunjungi berbagai macam pedagang dari dalam maupun luar negeri, walaupun Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok sudah dibangun.Dengan lajunya pembangunan secara setapak demi setapak Pelabuhan Pasar Ikan mulai menyesuaikan arus pembangunan demi kesempurnaan dan lajunya arus pelayaran. Mengingat Pelabuhan Sunda Kelapa aktifitasnya tinggi, maka pada tahun 1977 kegiatan pendaratan ikan lewat jalur pelabuhan tersebut dinyatakan tertutup berdasarkan Kep. Gub. KDKI No. 268 Tahun 1977, dimana kegiatan pendaratan ikan melalui Pelabuhan Sunda Kelapa dinyatakan ditutup, namun untuk aktifitas bongkar muat dan pelelangan ikan tanpa jalur laut diizinkan sampai sekarang ini dimana diberikan klasifikasi menjadi Pos Retribusi Ikan.
