Pada zaman dahulu, hiduplah seekor monyet yang serakah dan tamak. Ia suka sekali buah pisang. Di halaman rumahnya, ia memiliki kebun pisang sendiri. Setiap kali ia menghabiskan seluruh buah pisangnya,maka akan tumbuh pohon pisang lainnya. Jadi monyet merasa dirinya tidak membutuhkan hewan lain. Sedangkan kura-kura adalah hewan yang baik dan lembut. Ia adalah sahabat monyet. Kura-kura selalu menasihati monyet untuk tidak pelit dan serakah, karena itu tidak baik. Namun monyet tetap seperti itu.
