Menurut Saussure, Semiotika adalah persepsi dan pandangan kita tentang realitas, dikonstruksikan oleh kata-kata dan tanda-tanda lain yang digunakan dalam konteks sosial. Artinya, tanda membentuk persepsi manusia, lebih dari sekedar merefleksikan realitas yang ada (Sobur, 2006:87).
