Novel adalah sebuah karya sastra yang didalamnya terdapat cerita-cerita yang menarik. Novel berasal dari bahasa latin yaitu novella atau yang berarti sebuah kisah. Novel memiliki cerita yang tidak sama dengan cerpen, novel memiliki cerita panjang atau sedang. Apabila cerpen yaitu cerita yang singkat. Isi didalam novel menceritakan bagaimana tokoh-tokohnya bertindak, sehingga menciptakan sebuah kejadian yang menarik bagi pembaca, biasanya didalam novel menceritakan keseharian seseorang.

Setting of time and place adalah penjelasan mengenai kapan dan dimana tokoh-tokoh dalam sebuah novel berperan, disetiap novel pasti terdapat setting of time and place.
