Kegiatan reklamasi lahan bekas tambang sering mengalami kendala seperti pH tanah yang rendah, pemadatan tanah, kandungan unsur hara yang rendah dan mengandung bahan-bahan beracun pada tanah. Perbaikan kualitas tanah perlu dilakukan untuk menunjang keberhasilan reklamasi. Perbaikan kualitas tanah dapat dilakukan dengan cara menambahkan bio soil booster pada tanah tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian bio soil booster pada tanah lahan bekas tambang batubara dengan tanaman sorgum (Sorghum bicolor Linn.) sebagai indikator kualitas tanah. Bio soil booster yang digunakan terdiri dari empat tingkat konsentrasi yaitu kontrol (0%), konsentrasi tinggi (0,4%), konsentrasi sedang (0,2%), dan konsentrasi rendah (0,1%). Sampel tanah yang digunakan terdiri dari sampel tanah normal (media tanam A) dan lima sampel tanah lahan bekas tambang batubara (media tanam B, C, D, E, dan F). Respon S. bicolor yang diamati adalah pertambahan tinggi, pertambahan panjang akar, performa akar, dan performa daun. Hasil pengamatan menunjukan bahwa pemberian bio soil booster pada lahan bekas tambang dapat meningkatkan kualitas tanah. Larutan bio soil booster dengan konsentrasi tinggi (0,4 %) dan sedang (0,2 %) efektif digunakan pada media tanah B, D, E, dan F.

Land reclamation activities of the former mines often experience barriers such as the low soil pH, soil compaction, low nutrient content and contain toxic materials on the ground. Improvement of soil quality needs to be done to support the success of reclamation. Improvement of soil quality can be done by adding bio booster on the ground soil.
