Sekarang mari kita coba menyelesaikan contoh masalah tranportasi diatas dengan menggunakan metode-metode transportasi yang telah kita pelajari.
Pada bagian formulasi telah diperoleh masalah bentuk tabel transportasi dari masalah dan diskripsikan sebelumnya. Selanjutnya tinggal kita lakukan langkah-langkah penyelesaian untuk mendapatkan solusi yang diinginkan.



LANGKAH PERTAMA
Menentukan solusi awal yang layak merupakan langkah pertama yang harus dilakukan, Untuk mendapatkan solusi awal yang layak ini dapat digunakan beberapa metode (kriteria), yaitu metode northwest corner, least corner, VAM dan aproksimasi Russel.

METODE NORTHWEST CORNER
Dengan metode northwest corner, akan diperoleh solusi awal yang terlihat pada tabel 5.4. berikut.
