Greatest biodiversity is found in tropical forests. Despite tropical region covers only 7% of the area of the earth, but more than half the world's species can be found here (Whitmore 1990). This estimate is based on a calculation while in insects and other arthropods, as a group-kelornpok which incidentally is considered the most diverse in the world. Based on provisional estimates (perhaps also called educated guess or forecasts, empirical), in tropical forests, there are between 5 million to 30 million species of life that still needs to be recognized by science during this time (May 1992). If 30 million is an appropriate estimate, meaning insects found in tropical forests cover more than 90% of all species in the world.
Information on other groups, such as plants and birds is more accurate than the insects and arthropods. About 40% of the world's flowering plant species are found in tropical forests, while 30% of bird species depend on tropical forests (Diamond 1985).
