pengenalan adalah bagian peristiwa dalam suatu cerita rekaan atau drama yang memperkenalkan tokoh-tokoh atau latar cerita. yang dikenalkan dari tokoh ini, misalnya, nama, asal, ciri fisik, dan sifatnya.

konflik adalah ketegangan atau pertentangan antara dua kepentingan atau kekuatan didalam cerita rekaan atau drama. pertentangan ini dapat terjadi dalam diri satu tokoh, antara dua tokoh, antara tokoh dan masyarakat atau lingkungannya, antara tokoh dan alam, serta antara tokoh dan Tuhan. ada konflik lahir dan konflik batin.


komplikasi adalah bagian tengah alur cerita rekaan atau drama yang mengembangkan suatu masalah. dalam bagian ini, konflik yang terjadi semakin tajam karena berbagai sebab dan berbagai kepentingan yang berbeda dari masing-masing tokoh.

klimaks adalah bagian alur cerita rekaan atau drama yang melukiskan puncak ketegangan, terutama dipandang dari segi tanggapan emosional pembaca. klimaks merupakan puncak kesukaran, yang diikuti krisis atau titik balik.

krisis adalah bagian alur yang mengawali penyelesaian. saat dalam alur yang ditandai oleh perubahan alur cerita menuju selesainya cerita. karena setiap kalimat diikuti krisis, keduanya sering disamakan.

kesimpulan adalah bagian struktur alur sesudah tercapai klimaks. pada bagian ini peristiwa-peristiwa yang terjadi menunjukkan perkembangan penyelesaian.

penyelesaian adalah bagian akhir suatu cerita rekaan atau drama. bagian ini semua masalah dapat diuraikan, kesalahpahaman dijelaskan; rahasia dibuka. ada dua macam penyelesaian tertutup dan terbuka. penyelesaian tertutup adalah bentuk cerita yang diberikan sastrawan. penyelesaian terbuka adalah bentuk penyelesaian cerita yang diserahkan kepada pembaca.
