Mary Jane adalah seorang warga negara Filipina yang akan dieksekusi mati karena membawa 2,6 kg heroin senilai US$ 500 ribu. Mary Jane ditangkap di bandara Adisutjipto,Yogyakarta dan ia di penjara pada 11 Mei 2010. Hakim menjatuhkan hukuman mati setelah Mary Jane dipenjara selama 6 bulan. Pada Januari 2015 nama Mary Jane termasuk dalam daftar yang akan dihukum mati. Pengacara yang disewa pemerintah Filipina segera mengajukan proses "Peninjauan Kembali" pada 19 Januari 2015 sebagai usaha terakhir agar lolos dari hukuman mati. Pada 25 Maret 2015, Mahkamah Agung menolak peninjauan kembali kasus Mary Jane. Pemerintah Filipina pun mengajukan PK kedua pada 27 April 2015. Tapi sore harinya, pengajuan itu lagi-lagi ditolak oleh PN Sleman.
Jaksa Agung HM Prasetyo mengatakan bahwa memang benar "ternyata ada fakta-fakta dan indikasi bahwa Mary Jane Veloso adalah korban dari perdagangan manusia. Sehingga eksekusi hukuman mati terhadap Mary Jane ditunda, bukan dibatalkan.
Saya setuju dengan adanya hukuman mati untuk para pengedar narkoba dan Menurut saya, hukuman mati harus tetap dijalankan karena dalam hal ini Mary Jane tetap salah telah membawa 2,6 kg heroin. Jumlah heroin yang banyak tersebut akan membunuh lebih banyak manusia (warga negara Indonesia). Karena dengan hukuman mati akan mengurangi jumlah pengedaran narkoba, mengurangi jumlah kematian, dan membuat jera orang-orang yang akan menjual narkoba karena hukuman yang akan mereka dapatkan ketika membawa atau memiliki narkoba.
