Pada dasarnya, dikatakan bahwa “CSR is an Investment”. Yang mana investasi sosial perusahaan berasal dari filantropi ketika perusahaan memiliki nilai reputasi bagi masyarakat (community related). Sebelumnya, istilah CSI dan CSR digunakan secara bergantian, namun kini telah didefinisikan secara terpisah. CSR semata-mata hanya mengacu pada tanggung jawab perusahaan terhadap lingkungan bisnis di mana perusahaan beroperasi. CSR juga hanya menjelaskan solusi untuk hal triple bottom line dari 3P, people, profit, dan planet.
Namun kini Indonesia dikatakan sebagai “Darling for Business Investment”, di mana hadir CSI yang merupakan salah satu sub-komponen dari CSR yang mempunyai Sustainability Development Goals. CSI meliputi hal-hal yang bersifat eksternal untuk kegiatan bisnis normal perusahaan dan tidak secara langsung memiliki tujuan untuk meningkatkan keuntungan perusahaan tetapi juga stakeholders terkait, dengan memperhatikan needs and wants para stakeholders. Hal-hal terkait ini memiliki pendekatan pembangunan yang kuat dan memanfaatkan sumber daya perusahaan untuk mendapatkan keuntungan dan mengangkat masyarakat, yang tidak lagi mengutamakan dari dorongan inisiatif pemasaran.

CSR merely refers to the responsibility of the company towards the business environment in which companies operate. CSR also describes solutions for triple bottom line from 3 p, people, planet, and profit. Indonesia but is now said to be "Darling for Business Investment", where the present CSI which is one of the components of CSR that has Sustainability Development Goals. CSI covers things that are external to the normal business activities of the company and do not directly have a goal to increase corporate profits but also the stakeholders concerned, having regard to the needs and wants of the stakeholders. Related things it has a powerful development approach and utilize company resources to benefit society, and no longer give priority impetus of marketing initiatives.
