The effect on the environment Edit <br>Distribution of plastic debris itself varies greatly as a result of certain factors such as wind and ocean currents, shoreline, geographic, urban areas, and also the trade route. The human population in certain regions also play a considerable role in this regard. Plastic is more likely to be found in an enclosed area like in the Caribbean. It serves as a means of distribution of organisms to a secluded beach that is not their native environment. This of course has the potential to increase the diversity and spread of the organism in certain regions that are less biologically diverse. Plastics can also be a vector for chemical contaminants such as persistent organic pollutants and heavy metals.
