Contoh banyak kasus yang sudah pernah terjadi di Indonesia seperti ledakan gas elpiji dikarenakan gas bocor itu dikarenakan minimnya pengetahuan bagi rakyat menengah ke bawah tentang gas elpiji. Akan tetapi, kebijakan pemerintah tentang pengalihan penggunaan dari minyak tanah ke elpiji merupakan sebuah kebijakan yang cukup tepat. Hal itu karena cadangan gas di Indonesia jauh lebih banyak dibandingkan minyak bumi, meski sebagian besar sudah dikonsesikan pada pihak asing. PT. PERTAMINA mencatat cadangan minyak tanah dalam minyak bumi Indonesia sangat sedikit dibandingkan dengan minyakgas itu sendiri. Walaupun gas elpiji 3 kg diberlakukan hanya untuk masyarakat miskin tetapi masih banyak masyarakat kelas atas yang ikut memakainya.
