Galangal (Alpinia galangal L.) termasuk ke dalam salah satu anggota dalam famili Zingiberaceae. Lengkuas dimanfaatkan untuk mengobati penyakit yang disebabkan oleh infeksi bakteri, dan jamur. Bagian dari lengkuas yang sering dimanfaatkan adalah akar rimpangnya (Wohlmuth, 2008). Lengkuas mengandung golongan senyawa flavonoid, fenol, dan terpenoid yang memiliki aktivitas antibakteri terhadap Escherichia coli dan Bacillus subtilis (Yuharmen et al., 2002). Selain itu, lengkuas juga mengandung minyak atsiri yang mengandung senyawa eugenol, sineol, dan metil sinamat (Buchbaufr, 2003).

Galangal (Alpinia galangal l.) belongs to the one of the members in the family Zingiberaceae. Galangal is utilized to treat diseases caused by bacterial infections and fungi. Part of the often used galangal is a root rimpangnya (Wohlmuth, 2008). Galangal contains the flavonoid compounds, these Terpenoids and phenols, which has antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis (Yuharmen et al., 2002). In addition, it also contains galangal essential oil which contains eugenol, methyl sineol, and sinamat (Buchbaufr, 2003).
