Satu hal yang perlu disebut mengenai perkembangan kesusastraan Inggris zaman pertengahan ini ialah pengaruh Prancis.Pengaruh Perancis tidak saja terlihat dalam bahasanya, tetapi juga pada suasana, gaya, serta bentuk.
Drama
Satu jenis kesusastraan yang mulai tampak pada zaman pertengahan adalah drama. Drama yang dipertunjukkan ada dua macam. Yang pertama adalah “Miracels” yang melakonkan kehidupan orang-orang suci (Saints) dan yang kedua adalah “Mysteries” yang mengambil tema-tema dari kitab Injil.
