Institut Pertanian Bogor memiliki tingkat keanekaragaman satwaliar yang cukup tinggi, salah satunya mamalia. Untuk mengetahui kondisi populasi satwa dan habitatnya, perlu dilakukan kegiatan inventarisasi. Teknik-teknik inventasrisasi yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah line transect dan strip transect. Penelitian ini berlokasi di Kolam Percobaan FPIK IPB dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui ukuran populasi satwa dan mengidentifikasi efektivitas metode yang digunakan. Hasil perhitungan dugaan populasi kelelawar dengan metode line transect sejumlah 3291 individu, sedangkan dengan metode strip transect sejumlah 315 individu. Dugaan populasi bajing kelapa berdasarkan metode line transect sejumlah 69 individu, sedangkan metode strip transect sejumlah 143 individu. Hasil dugaan populasi pada metode line transect lebih mendekati populasi aslinya sebab kemungkinan double counting saat pengamatan kecil
