Disamping dampak negatif yang ditimbulkan gulma Mikania, ternyata gulma ini memiliki banyak manfaat. Manfaat Mikania secara tradisional yaitu sebagai agen antiinflamasi, untuk mengobati rematik, influenza, dan penyakit saluran pernapasan. Bagian daun Mikania digunakan sebagai obat terhadap gigitan ular dan sebagai pembalut luka (Navimoga dan Yatsuda, 2010). Beberapa aktifitas farmakologinya memperlihatkan aktifitas yang menarik diantaranya antistres (Ittiyavirah and Sajid. 2013), antiinflamasi (Peres et al. 2010), antitumor (Herz et al, 1986), analgesik (Ahmed et al., 2001), antibakteri (Bakir et al, 2004), allelopatik efek atau pitotoksik (Lalmuanpuii and Sahoo, 2011), dan farmakologi lainnya (Yatsudaa et al., 2005). Dari penelitian Febriani (2013), mengatakan bahwa gulma Mikania memiliki senyawa alelokimia berupa fenol, terpenoid dan flavonoid yang dapat menghambat pertumbuhan tumbuhan lain.
