Gempa bumi berkekuatan 6,4 SR mengguncang Aceh sekitar Pukul 05.03 WIB, Rabu (7/12/2016).

Berdasarkan informasi yang didapat dari situs BMKG. Pusat gempa berada pada 5.19 LU dan 96.36 BT, atau tepatnya terletak pada kedalaman 10 Km Timur Laut, Kabupaten Pidie Jaya, Aceh.

Dari kejadian tersebut kota Aceh pun mengalami terputusnya aliran listrik.Akibatnya, ratusan warga luka-luka dan puluhan meninggal dunia akibat tertimpa reruntuhan bangunan di Pidie dan Pidie Jaya.

Puluhan rumah dan toko rusak parah. Gempa ini juga merusak sebagian bangunan di Kabupaten Bireuen.
