Penelitian ini bermaksud memahami tipologi pola asuh dan pengaruhnya terhadap karakter anak di lingkungan keluarga TKW di Desa Sindangmulya Kecamatan Kutawaluya Kabupaten Karawang ini, yang kemudian dideskripsikan dengan kata-kata yang menggambarkan kenyataan sosial tersebut dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif, yang pengertiannya dikemukakan oleh Satori dan Komariah sebagai berikut, ”Penelitian kualitatif adalah suatu pendekatan penelitian yang mengungkap situasi sosial tertentu dengan mendeskripsikan kenyataan secara benar, dibentuk oleh kata-kata berdasarkan teknik pengumpulan dan analisis data yang relevan yang diperoleh dari situasi alamiah”.
