o benda kerja didukung dengan dua buah senter
o gunakan penyangga, plat pembawa dan pembawa bila benda kerjanya panjang.
o pahat harus setinggi senter
o pilih besarnya kecepatan putaran menggunakan rumus atau menggunakan tabel
o setel posisi pahat menyentuh benda kerja dan set dial ukur pada eretan melintang pada posisi 0
o setel posisi pahat pada batas ujung maksimum awal langkah pada dial eretan memanjang posisi 0
o pengukuran sebaiknya menggunakan alat ukur mesin itu sendiri
o gunakan pahat yang mempunyai sudut potong yang tepat
o jalankan mesin dan perhatikan besarnya pemakanan serta hasil pemotongannya.
