Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia didirikan pada tanggal 20 Oktober 1954 di Bandung, diresmikan oleh Menteri Pendidikan Pengajaran Mr. Muhammad Yamin. Gedung utama UPI bermula dari puing sebuah villa yang bernama Villa Isola, merupakan gedung bekas peninggalan masa sebelum Perang Dunia II. (Pada masa perjuangan melawan penjajah, gedung ini pernah dijadikan markas para pejuang kemerdekaan). Puing puing itu dibangun kembali dan kemudian menjelma menjadi sebuah gedung bernama Bumi Siliwangi yang megah dengan gaya arsitekturnya yang asli

Indonesia University of education was founded on October 20, 1954 in Bandung, inaugurated by the Minister of Education Mr. Muhammad Yamin. The main building of the ICU originated from the ruins of a villa named Villa Isola, is housed in the former heritage before World War II. (At the time of the struggle against the invaders, this building was once the headquarters of the Foundation of the freedom fighters). The wreckage debris was rebuilt and later transformed into a building, the majestic Siliwangi Earth with original architecture style
