Dalam prosesi ritual ruwatan lembur hal yang pertama dilakukan adalah kegiatan “ngaruat, ngarawat, ngaleungitkeun ruruet” yang berarti membersihkan, merawat, yang bertujuan menghilangkan hal-hal yang mengganggu, dalam kegiatan ini masyarakat Cikareumbi melakukan pembukaan jalur menuju mata air yang terletak di gunung hejo pasir luhur. Dalam kehidupan sehari-hari masyarakat Cikareumbi, tanda dalam bentuk patok dan lainnya pun memiliki makna dan kekuatan yang oleh masyarakatnya dipatuhi dan digunakan dalam berbagai kondisi terutama untuk urusan lahan, contohnya lahan kebun yang sudah diberi patok tidak akan ada yang berani mengganggu.
